Your Medicare Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) Letter

Every Medicare Advantage and Part D plan sends this letter each fall — here's what to look for.

What the ANOC Tells You

If you're enrolled in a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan, your plan is required to send you an Annual Notice of Change letter each fall, generally by the end of September. It outlines exactly what's changing about your plan starting January 1 — including premiums, deductibles, copays, drug formulary, and provider network.

If you don't take any action after receiving it, your current plan will typically auto-renew for the following year, even if it now costs more or covers less than before.

What to Check When You Read It

Compare next year's premium, deductible, copays, and out-of-pocket maximum against this year's numbers. Check whether your specific drugs are still on the formulary and at what tier, and confirm your doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies are still in-network.

If the changes don't work for you, the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7) is your window to switch plans. A free State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) counselor or a licensed agent can help you interpret the letter if anything is unclear.
